Supporting Students Through Trauma: What Educators Need to Know (and What They Often Don’t Hear)

10:15am – 11:15am on Saturday 11/7
Educators today are facing a level of student need that many feel unprepared for. Trauma, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm are showing up in the classroom in ways that traditional training does not fully address. At the same time, teachers themselves are carrying increasing levels of pressure, burnout, and emotional fatigue.

In this interactive session, Jen Marr shares insights from her research-based work in trauma-informed, prosocial behavior and her experience supporting communities following crisis, including her work in the Sandy Hook community.

This session focuses on what students need in moments of distress, while also recognizing the very real demands placed on the educators leading them.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how trauma impacts behavior, relationships, and learning, along with practical ways to respond in everyday classroom moments. Through guided reflection and connection-based exercises, educators will also have the opportunity to experience the same skills they are being asked to model: being seen, heard, and supported.

This session is designed not only to equip educators with tools, but to support them as people. Helping them reconnect to their purpose, their capacity, and the impact they have on students every day.
