Living in the Gap: How to Stay Present, Connected, and Grounded When Trauma Changes Everything

9:00am – 10:00am on Saturday 11/7
Many families, educators, and caregivers find themselves living in a space they never expected: the gap between what they thought life would look like and the reality they are facing today.

For those caring for children impacted by trauma, that gap can feel overwhelming. The rules that once made sense no longer apply.
Relationships feel unpredictable. And over time, it can lead to exhaustion, self-doubt, and a quiet sense of isolation.

In this keynote, Jen Marr shares a deeply personal and research-backed perspective on what it means to support others through trauma without losing yourself in the process. Drawing from her work following the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy and over a decade of studying human behavior in moments of distress, Jen introduces a new way of understanding care. Supportive care moves beyond clinical support and self-care and into the everyday moments where healing and connection actually happen.

Through powerful storytelling and practical insight, attendees will:
- Gain language for the challenges they are experiencing
- Understand why traditional approaches often fall short in trauma-impacted relationships
- Learn how small, relational moments can create meaningful impact over time

This session is designed to both encourage and equip attendees: to remind them that even in the hardest seasons, what they are doing matters more than they realize, and that despite the weight they carry, there is still the possibility of deep connection, meaning, and fulfillment in the relationships right in front of them.
